Swanage Regatta. Saturday, 25th June. Thanks

Once again, on behalf of the Association can I put on record and thanks everyone who played a part in what I believe was another very successful Swanage regatta. Its popularity remains as high as ever - with 171 entries according to the records - after late entries received - which I think is another new record! (161 last year) - and probably a record number of events staged.

We had a few minor issues - and the regatta did run late - not sure where we lost the time - we did start a little late but had caught this up at one point. We did resolve the First Aid Cover and safety boat issues in the end - although there was a cost as far as First Aid cover was concerned.

The risk of thanking Clubs and individuals is that I will miss someone - but here goes - the Race Officials, Controllers and Commentators of course - including Max who did a great job chasing up the crews; BTC for the PA system (I wont mention the Tables and Chairs); Denny Woodford for the Trophies; Sue for Regatta Control, contact with Swanage Council - and so much more - plus Alison from Poole at Regatta control; Poole for the Control Tent and arranging the Tables and chairs and for a safety boat; Lymington and Christchurch for safety boats, Pete Staddon from Christchurch and Dave Smith from Westover? for laying the course plus Pete for all the other things he dose - Radios, Boat Marshal, receiving and sorting out the cups etc... etc..; Tim Bull - for the program and more; Ryde & Josie for the Officials lunches. Mike & Emma Kelly - who although not needed in the end - bought their boat round as cover. Southampton for manning the gate; Newport for checking and bringing the safety kits and officials Life Jackets; the additional volunteer crew for the Poole safety boat - Dave, Ray, Kerry, Lauren and Jeff - plus those from Christchurch and Lymington who crewed their respective boats. I will have missed someone - sorry!

As far as I am aware there was only one safety incident that required a BR incident report a "simple capsize/collision" involving a BTC Sculler - for which a BR incident report has been submitted. The First Aid providers reported that they dealt with three minor incidents to rowers - and one - more serious - to a member of the public - who appeared to be having an angina attack.

As always the Association welcomes any constructive criticism or suggestions for improvement.

With the thanks of the Association once again.

Steve Bull, Association Secretary.

Bournemouth Regatta. 9/7/16. CANCELLED

Received the following today from Pete lamb, Regatta Coordinator, Bournemouth Regatta today. We have regrettably taken the decision to cancel the regatta. The wind speeds are predicted to be high with significant gusts. The weather is also due to be overcast/raining and we have been notified that one of our essential safety boats is unable to cover the event due to crew injuries. We checked the conditions this evening at the seafront and they were borderline. With conditions forecast to worsen we do not consider that we can hold the regatta safely. At this time we do not know if we can reschedule the regatta before the end of the season and need to discuss this as a club over the weekend. We will refund all regatta entries.
